Giving Children Hope is proud to support the Sixth Annual Quiñceanera banquet held at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, by providing gift bags with jewelry, make-up brushes, deodorant, feminine products, and more.
“These young women have dealt with more in their young lives than most of us have in our adult lives,” – Adam England, Cheif Operating Officer at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center said, “this is an opportunity for them to feel like princesses for a night,”

“The community comes together for this fairy tale evening!
A collaboration with the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, Crittenton Services, Colettes Catering, HIS House, CF Dance, YWCA, Giving Children Hope, Bourbon Street, and several other local organizations will be hosting the Sixth Annual Quinceañera banquet for 25 girls on Wednesday, October 23rd at 7 p.m. at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center.
The goal of this special event is to help the young girls live a life of luxury for an evening and feel like princesses. More importantly, the participating organizations hope to give the girls positive messages and skills for their passage into womanhood, as is one of the primary purposes of a quinceañera.
This community collaboration brings together the efforts and resources of a number of local businesses and nonprofit organizations in order to provide young girls from shelters, foster care and low-income homes with an evening of glitz, glamour, and a taste of royalty. These are girls who would not get a quinceanera without our help. Many of these young ladies are from broken homes, battered women shelters, or other similar circumstances where they would not ordinarily have this important coming of age life experience.
A quinceañera, meaning “one who is fifteen,” is the celebration of a girl’s fifteenth birthday in Latin American cultures. It marks a girl’s transition from childhood to young womanhood. Girls participating in quinceañeras have the opportunity to wear elegant ball gowns and exquisite tiaras, to literally denote that she is a “princess.” A girl’s court includes seven pairs of damas (dames) and chambelanes (chamberlains) who participate in a series of ballroom dances, as well as traditional dances. A quinceañera also involves the ceremony of the fifteen candles, during which the birthday girl delivers fifteen candles to the people who she considers were most influential in her development during her fifteen years.
We only need donations to cover the cost of the meals. Everything else has already been donated; including the elegant ball gowns the young ladies will be wearing, their jewelry, the dance floor, the banquet tables and chairs, the bouquets, photography, etiquette lessons, center pieces, dance lessons, linens, lighting, makeup and hair styling, and a DJ.
